The Growing Need for Cargo Bikes

Cargo Bike

Cities and townships throughout the United States are in the process of building extensive amounts of bike lanes on their streets. This is a result of a nation-wide demand for safer riding conditions. More and more people want to turn to healthier and more environmentally friendly methods of travel. Riding a bicycle covers both of those bases.

When looking at recent bicycle riding statistics, it is easy to see how this form of transportation is growing. According to the NYC DOT website, riding is at an all-time high of roughly 1.5 million adult riders. These riders are broken down into three distinct categories:

  • A few times a year = 34%
  • Once a month = 17%
  • Several times through the month = 49%

Not only are more people riding, but also less of those riders are getting severely injured. In 2002 there were roughly 8.34 out of one million riders who had major injuries or died. In 2014 the number dropped to 2.3 per one million (72% reduction in 12 years).
